Types of Wool Fabric for Wool Diaper Covers
Types of Wool Fabric for Wool Diaper Covers
There are many types of fabric weave for wool diaper covers. Some of them are listed below.
Interlock Blend would be felted before it was made into a fabric. Ususally this fabric is made with 5% Lycra to give it stretch and retain its form. You can wash this in the washer on cold and expect up to a 10% shrinkage. This fabric would be found in our Little Beetle selection, also some other brands that use this type of wool for their diaper covers are Sustainablebababyish, and the Stacinator wool wraps.
The next is an Interlock like flannel, not blended with any other material. This will not stretch like the blended interlock wool mention before. This will be your most trim wool cover I have seen. Sugar Peas wool flannel Diaper cover is an example of this.
Then there is machine knit wool. Disana Wool covers, overalls, and leggings are an example of this. They have plenty of growing room and lots of stretch to them. This makes a great choice for a soft fit. This wool will shrink in the washer greatly so it must be hand washed. Also there is hand knit wool which is what our Alpaca wool longies are. There are many talented mothers who also custom knit wool pants for diaper covers. Hyena cart and Etsy feature most of the Work at home mothers who do this.
Lastly there is a boiled wool. It is made by boiling or felting the wool, then matting it together to create a very tight fabric. This usually will not shrink much if at all due to the boiling. Examples of these are Imse Vimse wool covers and most of the Velcro closure wool wraps.
