Styles of Wool Diaper Covers

Styles of Wool Diaper Covers

Wool diaper covers come in many styles but how are you to choose the one for you? With many cuts and styles to choose from it can become quite confusing. Well hopefully this article can help explain the styles and cuts.

All of the wool diaper covers that we will discuss in this article can come in all the different materials that we discuss in our article “Types of Wool Fabric for Wool Diaper covers”.

Well there are longies, shorties, wraps, pull ons, and sleeping bags.

Longies are long pants that can come in different styles also. Our Alpaca longies are an example of a tight fitted all the way down cut of longies. Another style would be a karate pant type like sustainable babyish. The leg would be loose. They will come in single or double layer wool. Usually if they are double layered there will only be another layer inside that is only the size of underwear. Similar to how a boys swimsuit would be with the inner liner that is not the full size of the suit. Double layered wool longies can be used over night for wet protection. Single layer longies are best used during the day and will not hold an all night diapers’ wetness. Many moms also will put a waterproof cover like Bummis* or similar over the cloth diaper and then put the longies on when going on outings. This way you can still don your “to die for” longies but stay nice and dry all day!

Shorties are just that shorts. They are usually knitted by moms and will look like a pair of shorts. These work the same way as longies.  Shorties can more easily be worn in warmer climates.  They allow for a cooler choice in wool.

Wool Wraps are wool diaper covers that are shaped just like a diaper. They will have either a Velcro closure or snaps. These usually come in double layer but on occasion you will see them in single layer. The single layer in a wool wrap most times is much thicker than a single layer longie. This will give you ultimate wetness protection. With wool wraps you will have to try what works best for you since there are so many different patterns like with diapers. These are easy and quick to use.

Pull on wool covers are like oversized underwear. They are made big so they can fit over fat cloth diapers and to allow for shrinkage room. They come in many colors and cut. Disana and Little Beetle pull ons are this type of wool cover. Pull on wool covers offer ultimate wetness protection. They can also be called soakers.  With these covers you get a nice covered fit and most likely will not ever experience leaks. The way these wool covers work is by creating a nice long fit on the legs and waist. They have a high rise which helps to keep in messes. In the summer you can use these with a matching shirt on your baby or toddler, no need to add shorts or pants over them.

Lastly there are Wool Sleeping bags. These can be like the Disana sleeping bag but there are also ones that are just a bag that fit over the babys’ bottom with no shoulder straps. When felted wool bags can be one of the most comfortable and non binding covers for baby. They are used as a blanket and a diaper cover in one. You would just put on a nice overnight diaper then slide on your wool sleeping bag and have a nice snuggly baby in their wool.
